The Qur’an establishes prayer as a central act of worship and refers not only to its moral purpose and daily timing, but also to places dedicated to the remembrance of Allah.

Among these places are the houses permitted to be raised, where His name is remembered and glorified at specific recurring moments of the day.
Thus, in the Qur’anic text, place and time appear together in the description of worship.

The following verses present this connection directly from the Qur’an.

1. Houses Raised for Remembrance at Morning and Evening

Allah says:

Sūrah An-Nūr (24:36)

English translation (Pickthall)

In houses which Allah hath allowed to be exalted and that His name be remembered therein; there glorify Him therein in the morning and the evening.

Textual indication

This verse states that:

  • There are houses permitted to be raised
  • Allah’s name is remembered within them
  • Glorification occurs in the morning and the evening

Thus, the mosque appears as a designated place of recurring daily remembrance.

2. A Community Calling Upon Allah at Specific Times

Allah says:

Sūrah Al-Kahf (18:28)

English translation (Pickthall)

Restrain thyself along with those who cry unto their Lord at morn and evening, seeking His countenance.

Textual indication

The verse refers to:

  • a gathered group of believers
  • calling upon their Lord
  • occurring at morning and evening

This again links collective remembrance to specific daily times.

3. Mosques Belong to Allah Alone

Allah says:

Sūrah Al-Jinn (72:18)

English translation (Pickthall)

And the places of worship are only for Allah, so pray not unto anyone along with Allah.

Textual indication

This verse establishes that:

  • Mosques belong to Allah alone
  • Worship within them must be directed only to Him

4. Standing in Worship in a Gathered Setting

Sūrah Al-Jinn (72:19)

English translation (Pickthall)

And when the servant of Allah stood up in prayer unto Him, they crowded on him, almost stifling.

Textual indication

The verse refers to:

  • Standing in prayer
  • Calling upon Allah
  • within a gathered environment

Conclusion

The Qur’anic passages concerning the mosque show that worship is described through the union of:

  • a sacred place raised for remembrance
  • communities of believers calling upon Allah
  • exclusive devotion directed to Him
  • recurring daily moments, especially morning and evening

Thus, in the Qur’an, prayer in the mosque appears as: worship rooted in both place and time,
forming part of the continuous remembrance of Allah across the day.
