Sûrat Al- Fâtihah : بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ (1)

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Number of occurrences in the Qur’an

The Name Ar-Raḥmān (الرَّحْمَٰن) appears 57 times in the Qur’an.

It occurs in different grammatical forms, including:

  • الرَّحْمَٰنُ
  • الرَّحْمَٰنِ
  • الرَّحْمَٰنَ

All these forms refer to the same Name and are included in the count.

Linguistic meaning

Ar-Raḥmān is a Name derived from the Arabic root ر ح م,
which is associated with mercy, compassion, and encompassing kindness.

Surah Al-Fātiḥah (1:3)

Arabic

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:163)

Arabic

وَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ

English (Pickthall)

Your God is One God; there is no god save Him, the Beneficent, the Merciful.


Surah Maryam (19:18)

Arabic

قَالَتْ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيًّا

English (Pickthall)

She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art God-fearing.


Surah Maryam (19:26)

Arabic

فَكُلِي وَاشْرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيْنًا ۖ فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ أَحَدًا فَقُولِي إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ صَوْمًا

English (Pickthall)

Then eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say: Lo! I have vowed a fast unto the Beneficent, and may not speak this day to any mortal.


Surah Maryam (19:44)

Arabic

يَا أَبَتِ لَا تَعْبُدِ الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ عَصِيًّا

English (Pickthall)

O my father! Serve not the devil. Lo! the devil is a rebel unto the Beneficent.


Surah Maryam (19:45)

Arabic

يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَن يَمَسَّكَ عَذَابٌ مِّنَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ

English (Pickthall)

O my father! Lo! I fear lest a punishment from the Beneficent overtake thee.


Surah Maryam (19:58)

Arabic

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَبُكِيًّا

English (Pickthall)

When the revelations of the Beneficent were recited unto them, they fell down, adoring and weeping.


Surah Ṭā-Hā (20:5)

Arabic

الرَّحْمَٰنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَىٰ

English (Pickthall)

The Beneficent One, Who is established on the Throne.


Surah Al-Anbiyāʾ (21:26)

Arabic

وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَلَدًا

English (Pickthall)

And they say: The Beneficent hath taken unto Himself a son.


Surah Al-Furqān (25:60)

Arabic

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اسْجُدُوا لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ قَالُوا وَمَا الرَّحْمَٰنُ

English (Pickthall)

And when it is said unto them: Adore the Beneficent! they say: And what is the Beneficent?


Surah Yā-Sīn (36:11)

Arabic

وَخَشِيَ الرَّحْمَٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ

English (Pickthall)

And feareth the Beneficent in secret.


Surah Ar-Raḥmān (55:1)

Arabic

الرَّحْمَٰنُ

The Beneficent.


Surah Al-Mulk (67:29)

Arabic

قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ

Say: He is the Beneficent. In Him we believe.
